New Look Great Illawarra Walk

30 May, 2018

From 2019 The Great Illawarra Walk is changing to a single day event.

We are listening to our walkers and the feedback we have been given is being taken on board.

The old two day event has been going for 11 years and now we need a freshen up. Walkers have said the 100KM is too punishing for most people and on average only 10% of walkers complete the full distance. From now the walk will be a less punishing 40km. A distance that is still a huge challenge but achieveable for more people.

We will walk from Shellharbour Village to The Headland Hotel Austinmer. Walkers can still elect to cover part of this distance and walk as far as they feel comfortable with.

The  great news is we will finish in a single day. The finish line promises to be a much more sociable event. Fellow walkers can chat and enjoy live entertainment and finger food provided free to us by the Headlands Hotel.

All funds raised in the 2019 Great Illawarra Walk will be funding research to be undertaken in the Illawarra - through Saving Chloe Saxby - at the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI).

This is the first time in Australia that Vanishing White Matter Disease is being researched and we need every possible cent to make sure the research continues.

We have a target of $150,000 and we need your help!
